EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Artificial intelligence is rapidly altering how we live and how we work. Its impact on the job market is no exception. Survey results released by job search website ZipRecruiter show that 62% of job seekers are concerned that artificial intelligence could not only affect jobs, but derail careers.
A new U.S. White House report on the implications of artificial intelligence technology, including ChatGPT, concludes with “The primary risk of A.I. to the work force is in the general disruption it is likely to cause workers, whether they find that their jobs are newly automated or that their job design has fundamentally changed.”
A study conducted by OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, estimates that AI-powered technologies could seriously affect 19% of jobs in the U.S. “…researchers found that jobs with higher wages – which can involve the worker performing many software-based tasks – could face more exposure to potential disruption from AI-powered chatbots [than other groups].”
Most likely to be replaced
OpenAI researchers catalogued the professions liable to see the greatest level of disruption. Among these were translation professionals, interpretation professionals, creative writing professionals, tax preparers, public relations specialists, mathematicians, blockchain engineers, accountants, auditors and journalists.
This research study did have several limitations, including the fact that there’s an inherent bias in summing up professions based on simple labels in order to describe job tasks. Nonetheless, OpenAI’s researchers continue to expect that ChatGPT-4 and future iterations of the technology will markedly change the way that people work.
In an interview with ABC News, Sam Altman, creator of OpenAI, recently said that he was “a little bit terrified” by what the AI can do.
Least likely to be replaced

New jobs associated with ChatGPT
The employment website Indeed.com has reported a 140% increase in mentions of “language model,” a term associated with AI-based writing, across its job postings.
Several job postings aim to attract candidates interested in devising specific types of prompts for ChatGPT. One job posting asks for applicants to include a ChatGPT-generated story that a child might enjoy and the prompt used to generate it.
Other listings seek candidates with a willingness to figure out how to use ChatGPT and related AI tools to create stronger workplace outcomes.
